Genomic Survey and Expression Analysis of GLKs in Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)

Golden2-like (GLK) genes positively regulate chloroplast development, increase crop yields, and improve fruit quality. However, there has been no comprehensive identification characterization of GLKs in watermelon. In this study, a total 48 ClGLKs were identified the watermelon genome. Based on phylogenetic analysis, they divided into five groups. within same group showed similar gene structure conserved motif compositions. Promoter analysis indicated that cis-elements responsive to light most abundant, though associated with hormones, stress, developmental regulation also promoters. Expression significant responses some drought CGMMV suggesting these may participate biotic abiotic stresses. Phenotypic analyses revealed enhanced development increased thylakoid density chlorophyll content pericarp “dark green” cultivar. ClGLK8 was as homolog GLK1-2, promote biosynthesis fruits, significantly expression accordance accumulation. Our results provide detailed knowledge ClGLKs, which will enhance efforts further quality
